I MAKE THEREFORE I AM

Coco Chanel once said, 'Elegance is restraint'; and most of the time I think she's right.

Sometimes, though, elegance gets tired and needs a rest.
Sometimes it's worth it to get clumsy and overwrought and crazy.
Sometimes it's good to stop restraining.
Elegance is, to me, at once-- a beacon, an icon, a guide-- and a punishment to be avoided; to be tempered with bad choices and exuberant, baroque, unrestrained, maximal impulses.
